How To Simplify Your Golf Chipping!

Although having a great golf short game around the greens and being able to play perfect chip shots every time will to some degree rely on you having excellent feel and soft touch, there are ways that you can simplify the golf chipping process and thus help to make life a lot easier for yourself.

One of the most common mistakes that the average golfer tends to make quite frequently when it comes to golf chipping is that they tend to use the same golf club (i.e. a wedge or sand wedge) for every single chip shot, whether it's up hill, down hill, a short distance or a long approach to the pin.

Although many amateur golfers would argue the fact that they often gain more confidence and feel by using the same club for every single golf chip shot, in reality, you will find that you are going to need exceptional feel and touch to make this kind of approach effective and consistent on a regular basis.

Sometimes you may be faced with a short chip shot that requires you to get the golf ball up in the air quickly and land it with little roll, because you have minimal green to work with, and on other occasions you will have a much greater distance to cover, so will need to fly the golf ball much further in the air to reach your intended target.

You will also have to contend with up hill, down hill and sloping green scenarios. So if you are only using the one club for all of these golf chipping conditions, just imagine how many different kind of golf chipping techniques you will need to master and how much feel will be required, to enable you to accurately play these shots every time!!

To simplify your golf chipping experience and make life a little less complicated for yourself, you should try using more of the golf clubs in your bag. The varying lofts of each of the golf clubs will enable you to use one simple golf chipping technique that is easy to learn and will produce consistent and reliable results.

I would recommend spending some time at your local practice golf chipping area or try and get yourself a good quality golf chipping net so you can practice at home. Take a 6, 7, 8 & 9 iron and practice using the same length back swing and follow through, so you get a feel for how much carry and run you get with each club.

A good golf chipping tip to remember is that the quicker you can get the ball rolling on the green, the more consistent and accurate your results will ultimately be. The margin for error dramatically reduces the longer the golf ball has to stay in the air and the longer your back swing has to be!

If you are serious about improving your golf chips shots and looking for some inspirational advice on how to take your short game and golf chipping to the next level, then i would recommend that you get a copy of Phil Mickelson's excellent golf instructional book called 'Secrets Of The Short Game'
