Golf Ball Flight Laws - 9 Basic Shot Patterns

Golf Swing  |  Instruction  |  Tips  |  Drills  |  Books  |  EBooks  |  DVD's  |  Training Aids

There are only 2 factors that influence the direction and shape that your golf shots will take, your path of swing and your clubface position!

Path of Swing has 3 variables, it will either be:

   1) Inside to Outside - ball direction starts right of target line
   2) Inside to Inside - ball direction starts on target line
   3) Outside to Inside - ball direction starts left of target line

Clubface Position also has 3 variables, it will either be:

   1) Closed - causing the golf ball to curve to the left (hook)
   2) Square - causing the golf ball to go straight
   3) Open - causing the golf balll to curve to the right (slice)

Every ball flight direction is a result of the partnership between path of swing and clubface position, so if there are only 3 swing paths and only 3 clubface positions then there are only 9 basic shot patterns possible.
